Saint Louis University

Reckoning with our Institutional Histories

9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Breakfast and lunch included

Framing questions:

·  How have Catholic universities been shaped by histories of slavery, segregation, and racial exclusion—and what responsibilities do those histories place on us today?

·  What does an authentic process of historical reckoning and reconciliation look like for Catholic institutions committed to truth, justice, and human dignity?

·  How have Catholic universities responded to their racial pasts, and what models of repair, remembrance, and transformation are emerging across higher education?

·  In a polarized political and cultural moment, how can Catholic colleges and universities model for students an engagement of race, history, and reconciliation with moral clarity and faithful courage?

*Homerooms bring together conference attendees from across universities, focus areas, and leadership experience for an opportunity to provide holistic perspectives and share diverse reflections on our conference theme: Caring for the Whole Person. This dedicated block of time is intended to provide space for honest conversation among student affairs practitioners from a broad range of experiences on matters that are impacting our care for our students, our colleagues, and our institutions.*

Keynote Speaker: Michael Rozier, S.J., Ph.D.

Michael Rozier is Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives at Loyola University Chicago, where he is also an Associate Professor of Health Care Administration.  Panel Discussion: Forming Students for the Common Good: Civility, Dialogue, and Free Speech on Campus

Rob Vischer

President

University of St. Thomas in St. Paul

Robert K. Vischer became the 16th President of the University of St. Thomas on January 1, 2023, following a unanimous selection by the Board of Trustees. Prior to this role, he served as interim president beginning June 1, 2022, and dean of St. Thomas’ School of Law from 2013 to 2022. Vischer joined the university in 2005 as an associate professor of law. As president, Vischer has advanced the university's key priorities while reinforcing St. Thomas’ commitment to its mission of whole-person formation and fostering what Pope Francis calls a “culture of encounter.” A central tenet of his leadership is helping the university community aspire to ensure every member of the St. Thomas community, without exception, has the unmistakable experience of feeling seen, known, and loved. To build community and help faculty, staff, and students “lift their gaze,” Vischer launched the Claritas Initiative, aiming to cultivate the transcendental values of truth, beauty, and goodness within the university community. This initiative encompasses a series of discussions, performances, and experiences designed to explore and nurture these values across campus.

Vischer's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from the University of New Orleans, and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Before entering academia, he practiced corporate litigation at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago and clerked for three federal judges. Vischer serves on the board of the Association for Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU). He serves on the executive committee of GREATER MSP and as a board member of the Minnesota Business Partnership and the Greater Twin Cities United Way. He is also a member of the Coalition for Transformational Education (CTE) and the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration.

 Mission Integration Awards

As the voice for student affairs professionals in Catholic higher education, ASACCU annually presents the Best Practices in Mission Integration awards to highlight and recognize best practices in various student affairs areas. The programs that are recognized each year intentionally articulate Catholic identity as an integral part of a student affairs program. Through the mutual sharing of ideas and their practical applications, ASACCU hopes to foster dialogue to deepen our members’ understanding of the interplay between Catholic identity and the ever-changing complexity of contemporary circumstances and student experiences on our campuses.

The categories for the Mission Integration Awards submissions are:

  • Dean of Students, Residence Life, Health and Wellness and related

  • Student Activities, Leadership, Orientation and related

  • Diversity, Inclusion, and related

  • Integration of the Principles of Good Practice, any field

Programs submitted for consideration should be original to your campus. Programs that are developed based on common curriculum and objectives, especially as developed by outside vendors or companies, will not be considered. Each individual submission should be made in only one category.

Submit a 2026 Mission Integration Awards Nomination by February 28, 2026.
